A step back in time.....

After a busy 3ish weeks in hospital, Sam has been home for a week and is now over his cold, so he is back to Mainly Music and his usual routines. Tomorrow the physio and speech language therapist are coming and we welcome their input - 3 weeks standing/lying in a cot in isolation means his physical strength diminishes as does his confidence with his body/transitioning etc. Today I had 3 appointments at Starship - a renal ultrasound (aka torture!) which is 20 mins of me holding Sam down with all my strength as he screams and is hysterical enough to make himself sick. Then it was gastro clinic and then urology clinic (Renal surgery), followed by a quick xray to confirm all the right additional bits are still in place internally! The upshot of the various clinics was that Sam is doing really well. His kidneys are looking the best they have ever looked and we don't need to be reviewed for a couple of years! Gastro clinic just tweaked some of his meds and talked about getting him back up to where he was before he got his last gastro bug.... So we're really pleased that he is doing so well - the renal surgeon was delighted and amazed at the state of Sams kidneys, considering he saw how bad they were originally - we are thankful for the amazing teams that have worked so hard with Sam, grateful for their skill and care, so thankful to God for sustaining Sam through tough times and so hopeful for his future.

I leave you with almost forgotten shots of a holiday we had in Rotorua in summer.

X Shirley

Hi folks, Glad to read that the tests showed good things! I feel for you very much having to be there amid the screaming! Not pleasant. Love the photos of the holiday. By the way, wasn't there another choice of helmet colour for your boy? I thought the girls would have had provided enough opportunities for pink!
