3 years ago I was exceptionally large, sitting in Auckland Hospital waiting for Sam to be born......truth be told I was terrified as no-one knew if he would survive birth, let alone after that, then many dark days and tears....and well, you know the rest is history! Tonight he is sleeping, blissfully aware that tomorrow he will no longer be '2 half', but he will be THREE! THREE, I can't BELIEVE it.... THREE!!! Who'd have thought - it's awesome, it's amazing, we're blown away that we have the joy and privilege of parenting this special little man. We don't stop and contemplate very often how ill he was, as life is for living today, but we stand in awe of how far he has come and how we have been sustained through tough times by the love of friends and family and the presence of our loving God in our lives.
Sam is such a delight, such a hoot, great fun and brings such joy to our family. Yesterday we had a special 'High Tea', in honor of the Queen's Birthday and three birthdays in our family this week - Nathan (cousin) 1/6, Candace 3/6 and Sam 6/6..... dress code was bow tie and tiara's.... it was a fun afternoon and Sam was rather fond of his bow tie (the $2 shop had a half price sale - True!) and happily wore it. Last night I got him ready for bed and he was making such a fuss - he talks all the time but sometimes I have no clue what he is on about. He kept pointing at something and shouting, 'on eye, on eye'.... after 5 mins of his increasing frustration I realised he was pointing at his bow tie and he was trying to say, 'on tie!'... I put it back on him and he said, 'thank you Mumma, goodnight' and promptly fell asleep!
Today we had a birthday celebration with 'T' - his special nurse of nearly 2 years and tomorrow we will have a couple of special friends home after school, but otherwise just a low key day as Sam has a heavy cold, so won't be venturing out to his usual music group.
So I leave you with some recent photos of our Sam. Thank you for your love, prayers and support of this little guy and us on our journey.
